Don't Be Jealous

This is not a joke. This was an actual email sent to all employees today at my company. This is their idea of improving the workplace. Like I said, don't be jealous.

In the next couple of weeks, Facilities will start construction on enhancing the look and functionality of our restrooms on the north side of the Lookout building. This includes the ladies and men’s restrooms on the first, second and third floors – only the north side restrooms will be impacted at this time.

The work will be done in phases. Phase one will include the installation of a bidet attachment to one toilet in each restroom. Bidets are becoming more common in the US (for example Google headquarters has them installed), and the combination toilet-bidets being installed at STA are particularly popular in South Korea where they can be found in approximately 60% of households.

Most of the construction will occur this weekend (February 6 - 7th) and we don’t anticipate any restroom closures during the work week, however please be aware that unexpected instances many facilitate the need to close all or part of the restrooms on the north side during this construction. In such cases, employees should use the restrooms on the south side.

During phase two, stainless steel stall partitions will be installed replacing the existing partitions. These partitions will be installed in 4-6 weeks, again over a weekend so there should be minimal to no impact during the work week.

If the enhancements are well received, we hope to commence construction on the south side restrooms in the near future.

So, needless to say, a good part of the morning was spent with emails flying all over the department about how ludicrous this is. We are now benchmarking Google on bidets, but I can't get a freakin' polycom in our conference room. If anything, it provided much needed comic relief. I'll post pix of our new "enhancement" soon! Don't be jealous!
