Put That On Your Resume

I purposefully avoid writing things about my job on this blog because I have this weird paranoia that somehow it will all come back to haunt me. This is also the same reason why I refuse to be on myspace or facebook. The last thing I need is to have coworkers knowing about the life I lead outside of work. Granted, I don't lead a double life, but it would freak me out to have random people at work come up to me and say - hey! I was at the concert too! What? Who? Where? Yes, I know this is a public blog- but somehow I feel justified. I can't explain it. Just like I can't explain why people watch WWF.
So, yeah, that was a long-winded intro. To say my job is abnormal would be an understatement. On paper, it looks normal. Works in marketing for Fortune 500 company, runs trade shows, events and manages sponsorships and airport marketing. Ah, but that is where normality ends and the craziness as I know it begins. You see, over the last 3.5 years, I have done things (all legal, of course!) and been witness to some of the most bizarre and random demands. Bullet proof vest? Yes, I've had to buy two. Locate and ship rare wines under extremely tight deadlines? Yes, I've bought four bottles for no less that $7,000. Secure 30 high-end cameras for customer gifts with less than 2 hours notice? Check. So, it came as no surprise that as I was looking forward to a nice, leisurely Father's Day weekend, that an unexpected, albeit all too frequent, request came in.
Here I am about to head out the door to work when I get a call to pack a bag because I
might have to go to California. The day continued to progress and there was no more clarity than in the morning as to whether or not I would have to board a plane that night or not. Finally, as 3 pm rolled around I got the orders to go to California. So, two hours later, I was on my way to the airport to California. Calls were made, emails sent, and with my wife assuring me she'd be ok, I left.
Ultimately in California, things worked out and I was able to accomplish the task at hand. The upside was I was able to see my brother and his wife and be with my parents on Father's Day- a treat enough to make the trip worth while. Needless to say, I have vacation coming up this Friday and am looking forward to not having any "unexpected" requests come in. (Assuming there is no cell reception off the coast of Ecuador where the originator of these requests will be!) Cross your fingers for me! AND last but not least....HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BABE! 9 YEARS! WOO HOO!

Two Words: Andrea Bocelli

It is rare that I am able to surprise Aprille. It's not that I don't want to or try (she may ding me on that), but this is my problem- I spill the beans. Why? Well, I like sharing! What's wrong with that? I figure if I tell her then I get more mileage out of it because she is aware of the surprise long before it comes. Ok, maybe my logic is flawed- but not this time around!

So, I scored some tickets to Andrea Bocelli this last weekend, but I was determined to keep it a secret. I called her up and told her we were going on Saturday night but wouldn't tell her what we were doing. Needless to say, she needled me all week, but I was true to my promise! So, Saturday came and we got in the car and I blasted some Andrea Bocelli and she was so surprised and excited- it was worth keeping the secret.

A Budding Romance

All school year, Koebe has been infatuated with a girl in his class named Karrigan. He tells us he is going to marry her. Here is are some pix of the happy couple below:

At the zoo on a field trip in April

At Kindergarten graduation

And the letter that seals the deal

Today, after his kindergarten graduation (yes, they have those- what happened to just moving on to first grade like I did????), Karrigan gave Koebe this letter. He came home and when he finally read it, he was a little twitterpated. So, do we nip this romance in the bud before they pull a Sleepless in Seattle and jump the plane to Vegas and elope or do we let young love take its course? Enquiring minds want to know! Till the first grade....the suspense is better than Bella wondering if Edward is going to come back after he left her heart torn into a tiny million pieces in the forest....it's going to be a long, hot summer.
